Good Host policy

All of our holiday homes are privately owned, and are cared for by independent housekeepers. But there are many things that you can expect to be the same or similar, whichever one you choose.

Finding your holiday home

As soon as your holiday is fully paid for you’ll get our booking email with a detailed description of how to find it. This is vital in Cornwall as Sat Nav may get you close, but is equally likely to turn you down the wrong lane at the last minute and then insist that you drive into the middle of a field!

Cleaning

Of course, all properties will have been cleaned before your stay, and should be as fresh as a sea breeze when you arrive. When you depart please also leave it clean and tidy and follow our Arrival and Departure Policy.

If you are staying for two weeks or more, your housekeeper will get in touch with you (usually by phone) before or during your stay to arrange weekly clean/s and linen change/s. This may be at a particular time of the week to fit the housekeeper’s schedule, or you may be offered some flexibility. Please tidy up before they arrive and arrange to be out of the property while they are at work.

Linen and towels

All bedding is provided, including two pillows per person. You will also find one bath towel for each guest, two hand towels in each bathroom and tea towels for the kitchen. Sorry we cannot supply extra towels and linen. We request that the bath towels are strictly used in the holiday homes only — please bring your own beach towels.

Guest Directory

All properties have a detailed Guest Directory. This will explain everything you need to know about your cottage, from the WiFi key to when to put the bins out. The Guest Directory also has lots of local info to help you get the most from your stay. In some of our properties the Guest Directory is available as a handy digital app so information is with you everywhere you go.

The Guest Journal

Each property has a Guest Journal too. It’s far more than a visitors’ book — you’ll find a treasure trove of recommendations. Have a good read and don’t forget to share all your favourite experiences too. Please note that we may quote your comments on our website. By writing in the journal you are giving consent for Forever Cornwall to publish what you’ve written using your first name or surname (but not both) and the month you stayed.

Welcome pack

In short, you don’t have to pack the kitchen sink. To make sure you feel nice and welcome, all holiday homes will have many of the little things you need, from the moment you arrive. These include:

  • Two loo rolls in every bathroom
  • Washing up liquid
  • Washing up sponges, scourers etc
  • Salt and pepper (not Bude/Widemouth Bay properties)
  • Olive oil for cooking (apart from Kestle Barton, Bude/Widemouth Bay & Port Gaverne properties)
  • Bin liners
  • Tea bags
  • A pint of milk (apart from Kestle Barton & Bude/Widemouth Bay properties)
  • … and usually a few other little treats too!

Bringing babies

If your party includes a baby make sure you tick the Baby Pack option so that appropriate baby equipment is put in place for you. There is no charge for this. This includes a travel cot and mattress (but not bedding as most parents prefer to bring their own and we agree this is best), and a high chair. Stair gates are usually included too but note that it’s not possible to fit them in all properties so please check the individual property page or call the office if you’re unsure.

Dogs on holiday

Many of our properties are dog friendly but not all. It’s clearly stated on the website. Please note that we have a specific Dog Policy that you should read if you are bringing a dog.

Woodburners

If your holiday home has a woodburner you’ll find enough kindling and logs to get you through the first night (note that some owners don’t supply this in the summer but most do between October and April). Some owners are able to supply more wood to make things easy for you and others have ‘honesty boxes’ where you can pay for extra logs. Alternatively you can buy supplies from local garage forecourts and shops.

Barbecues

Most properties have barbecues except apartments and those with no outside space — check the property webpage. Sorry, we do not provide fuel for barbecues. The barbecue should be clean so please leave it clean for the next guests. This is really important as the housekeepers are not expected to clean them. If barbecues have to be cleaned you will be charged for this. The charge will be passed on to housekeepers.

Beach stuff

Some holiday homeowners provide beachy things, like portable barbecues, buckets and spades, bodyboards and even surfboards. Please think of these as a bonus and don’t rely on your property being equipped with particular things unless stated on our website. Use them at your own risk and please always supervise children.

Rainy day games, books and DVDs

In most properties you’ll find books and games, perhaps a DVD selection or even a games console. But, as above, please don’t rely on any property having specific things unless stated on the website. If in doubt, please ask.
