It’s hard to imagine a more dramatic and iconic view anywhere in Cornwall. St Ives bay lies before you, panoramic, and sublime whether soaked in sun or ravaged by storm. Chalet Thiseldo is a newly created holiday residence, built on the site of an original 1930’s beach chalet. The architecture, build quality and detailing are inspiring. Three miles of golden beach lie below, and St Ives, Gwithian & Godrevy, and Hayle are all just a short distance away. Chalet Thiseldo is sited on the edge of a collection of popular beach chalets at Hayle Towans between Hayle and Gwithian. It has its own little hideaway site, and is private and is not overlooked by any other properties here. The property is small but very cleverly designed — connecting you to an infinity of coastal paradise.

Inside Chalet Thiseldo

You’ll walk from your parking area down a short flight of steps though sand dunes to Chalet Thiseldo. The contemporary black larch finish is immediately striking and gives a fore-taste to what’s to come. Inside you are welcomed into a very stylish and contemporary open plan living area, which is all about the view of course. The 180 degree floor to ceiling glazing with corner windows makes you feel like you’re a bird. Sun doors open out onto your private balcony.

To relax on while soaking this up you have a sofa and two armchairs. Should you tire of looking at the bay you have Bang & Olufsen 50″ Beovision Contour smart TV. You have a compact but capable kitchen with Bosch appliances. Two bedrooms await sleeping four. The principal bedroom has a king-sized bed, hanging space and a full length mirror. The second bedroom is a space-saving bunk room with beautiful built-in full size beds. You have a stylish bathroom with a full-sized bath and shower over. Tucked underneath the building is a utility space with a washing machine.

Outside and around the beach house

You are private and detached, once of a very few chalets there that have the privileged position of looking right out to sea. All around is the wild dune-scape of this stretch of coast. You have a barbecue, sun chairs and a little lower patio area.

To the left of Chalet Thiseldo, there is a pathway giving you access directly to the beach below. Here the tide reveals what seems like an infinity of perfect sand. It’s lifeguarded in the main season and the perfect antidote to urban life. You can walk one way for miles along unbroken sands and past surf and seabirds to iconic Gwithian, or the other way up the estuary to Hayle (one of Cornwall’s great spots for people ‘in the know’). Close by you can take boat trips, surfing lessons, grab a bite, visit amazing farms shops or galleries, explore Poldark-style mining heritage or miles of coastal path. And you mustn’t miss the coastal train from St Erth to St Ives. West Cornwall really is the perfect base from which to explore the whole county.

Things we love

This place is the coastal pride-and-joy of its owners and you can tell it’s been created with imagination, love and skill. We love quiet time in the chalet, soaking up the views across the bay towards St Ives —and of course exploring (or relaxing on) the three mile sandy beach literally seconds away. The Cove Café above the beach has brilliant breakfast, lunch and refreshments. Towards the Gwithian & Godrevy end of the beach not only can you spot seals, but you can also arrange surf lessons.

There are great cafés worth the long stroll (or short drive) for breakfast or lunch. We also love to stroll up the estuary and pop into Lula, the lobster shack only ten minutes walk away, or popping in to Hayle to pick up some Philps Cornish pasties (arguably the best in Cornwall!) and sitting on the harbour wall catching crabs with children. And then it’s always a joy to return to Chalet Thiseldo… which for us, and for you, will do just fine!

Those views!
We have had the most wonderful week in your beautiful chalet - we're definitely going to miss waking up to those views! Looking forward to booking again and making more memories in Cornwall.

  • Stunning place

Had a very short but amazing stay at this gorgeous Chalet Thiseldo. This view is spectacular - in both sunshine and storm. Not sure you could find a better location and this beach is stunning. Beautiful, stunning place to spend a few days.

  • The perfect bolthole

We've sadly only been able to enjoy this incredible house for a few days but it has not disappointed. So amazing - that incredible view hit us each morning. It has been the perfect bolthole. Our daughter (aged 22 months) seems to be at her absolute happiest here and on the beach. The view has done all of us a lot of good!

  • Lucky

We are the lucky two, or many, to come to Thiseldo. Highly recommend the morning walk to Hayle on the beach and down to the old quay, it is just a pleasure. A big and warm thank you to the owners for sharing their dream with us. All of you who follow, have a wonderful week.

  • A magical place

This truly is a magical place. We are three friends who came together for some R&R and this did not disappoint. We felt as if the beach was our own private playground and with shopping amenities a stone's throw away. We ate, cooked, re-connected and more. We can't wait to visit again.

  • A tranquil haven

Chalet Thiseldo more than did it, it was absolutely perfect! We couldn't have wished for a better little retreat for our baby-moon. After the year that has unfolded, we wanted to find a place in the UK to disconnect from London life, connect to nature and each other, as well as prepare for our new baby and Chalet Thiseldo was all of the above and more. It really is the most idyllic spot on the Cornish coast - you won't ever tire of that view! It's a tranquil haven, the beauty is really in its simplicity, the breathtaking view that ever changes.

  • Breathtaking view

What a truly magical visit we had to this beautiful part of Cornwall and this incredible beach house and its breathtaking view. Dinner picnics and BBQs on the beach of Hayle with the sunset. A true holiday! Would love to revisit soon.
