Gwithian House has been radically renovated to a standard that is very much luxurious, but also gives off a relaxed and welcoming vibe…you’ll find it hard to leave! Situated in the middle of the delightful village of Gwithian, opposite the Red River Inn, this fabulous home is a short drive to the nearby towns of Hayle and St Ives, which are definitely well worth a visit (if you have time for one in between your trips to the fantastic beaches that are just minutes away!). The property is light and spacious — the open-plan living areas open out through French doors onto the large south-facing garden of this fabulous big white house. Behind is ample parking for three-four cars.
Inside Gwithian House
The kitchen and living areas are wonderfully bright and airy thanks to double-height windows that let light flood in. A large kitchen island and breakfast bar containing plenty of cupboard space and housing the five-ring gas hob sits in the middle of a well-equipped kitchen, where a walk-in larder and American-style fridge-freezer provide the perfect environment for budding cooks!
Gwithian House boasts a number of leisure areas where the whole family or friends can gather around and eat or socialise together, and the large breakfast bar is one of these areas, with on-trend bar stools surrounding it. Connecting with the kitchen is the large main living area, with a selection of sofas and armchairs and a 49 inch wide-screen TV, as well as some rainy-day books and games — and the large dining table to seat eight. Through glazed doors is a second a snug living space, which contains a wood burner and comfy seating. Through a door lies the first of the four spacious bedrooms, which is a ground-floor en-suite king bedroom containing a writing desk. Superfast fibre broadband WiFi will keep you connected throughout the property.
The utility area is outside the kitchen where you’ll find a sink, washing machine and tumble drier as well as a walk-in wet room which contains a shower, WC and basin; great to have if you require accessible facilities, or even if you want to warm up from a chilly walk as soon as you step through the door!
The light and airy feel continues up to the first floor, where you will find three more bedrooms and a family bathroom containing a bath. There is another king-sized bedroom on this floor, also containing an en-suite with two shower heads, and an amazing walk in wardrobe — the room enjoys views of the large, perfectly presented garden. Across the hall are two twin bedrooms, which are both a lovely size, and one of which can be turned into a third king-size bed if required.
Out and about
As much as the interior of Gwithian House is set to impress, the outdoor space and garden don’t disappoint either. The living area opens out to a beautiful, sunny patio, where there is a large al fresco dining table and seating for eight, as well as a luxury gas barbecue. The patio is sheltered by a stone dwarf wall that leads to the garden, which is surrounded by another stone wall and flowerbeds.
A great deal of care has gone into making this garden comfortable and well-presented, and the grass itself, although artificial, is certainly practical and ready for all sorts of games to be played on; you have a full sized outdoor table tennis table as well as boules, to name but a few.
Gwithian House is set in the heart of Gwithian village, one of the jewels of this stretch of coast, separated from the sea only by a strip of unspoilt sand dunes, called ‘the towans’. This small and traditional hamlet comprises just a pub, a church, a few attractive houses and a high quality campsite.
Gwithian Towans beach is just a 10 minute walk away across sand dunes — or an even shorter drive. This fabulously long and attractive beach (rated five star by TripAdvisor) offers a perfect combination of great surf, sand-pools and rock-pools, and safe lifeguarded swimming (in the main season). You can also try your hand at SUP-ing or even kite surfing! Gwithian Towans beach has large dog-friendly areas as well as restricted areas.
A little further away is Godrevy beach (also lifeguarded). Here you can spot seals and enjoy marvellous views of the picturesque Godrevy Lighthouse. The wild Towans comprise miles of sand dunes marram grass — a haven for wildlife, perfect for long walks and very dog-friendly.
There are several eateries in the area; try the Red River Inn just across the road from Gwithian House; a great local pub with an excellent menu and a super range of local craft ales. By Godrevy beach are both The Rockpool, a trendy bar that serves up great food and music, and Godrevy Café with excellent home-made food all day. And don’t miss the Sunset Surf Cafe that’s just up from Gwithian Beach, where you can enjoy great breakfasts, lunches and cakes!
Complete your trip with a short drive over to St Ives and Carbis Bay, and enjoy the boutique shops and more eateries that are on offer.
Things we love
The moment you step into Gwithian House, it is hard not to utter the words “wow, cool!” With something for everyone, from the table tennis set in the garden to entertain children, both big and small, to the fabulous kitchen area, perfectly equipped to entertain and cater for a large group, Gwithian House is an ideal base from which the best holidays can be enjoyed.
We thought that the ground-floor wet-room and king bedroom would be a welcome addition for the kinds of families that include all generations and require ease of access, as we know from experience that stairs and steps can prove to be a deal-breaker for many families when it comes to choosing a holiday.
Gwithian House is modern, fashionable and, quite possibly, one of the coolest places to stay in Gwithian! Whether you are a large family looking for the ideal retreat that is close to the beach and provides all the amenities needed to make the perfect holiday, or there are just a few of you keen to stay in a great location, whilst being surrounded by all the mod-cons you could ever need, Gwithian House is the place.
