Sandlands is one of Gwithian’s original beach chalets, but has been thoughtfully updated to make a carefree contemporary holiday home. It has comfortable bedrooms sleeping four, a cosy living room with sea glimpses, and a lovely new and very well equipped kitchen. The property immediately sets you at ease with its home-from-home feel. It also has a decked courtyard to the rear which makes a private sun-trap, and has its own parking space. There is a convenient café close at hand serving everything from mouthwatering breakfasts to coffees, treats and even evening meals in summer, as well as more eateries and a great pub within close walking distance. Sandlands Beach Chalet makes a great base for an escape to Gwithian Towans at any time of year, with direct access to literally miles of sand dunes, coastal paths… and of course the breathtaking beach.
Inside Sandlands Beach Chalet
Inside Sandlands you’ll find a light and friendly living room, with a sea-facing window, two sofas, a flat screen TV with built in DVD player, as well as a good selection of books and games. The wood burner is a great addition as it heats the property very efficiently on those cooler evenings. The kitchen is fresh and modern, and very well equipped (the owner was a professional chef!) and is next to the relaxing dining room for sharing those holiday stories after a day on the beach!
The two bedrooms are airy and comfy, one with a double bed and sea glimpses and the other with bunk beds. A family bathroom, additionally equipped for guests with restricted mobility, completes the accommodation.
The courtyard, beach and surrounds
Sandlands has a small but very private decked courtyard garden complete with a hardwood table and four chairs, and a Weber barbecue for you to enjoy al fresco dining and outdoor life. But it’s the proximity of Gwithian Towans and beach that makes this such a great holiday home. The clean sandy beach stretches for three miles, hosts a myriad of rock-pools and sand-pools, and has safely lifeguarded zones in the summer. Many say it’s even better in winter — at low tide there is a vast expanse of sand for walking and taking in the awe-inspiring surf, and far reaching views over the sea to St Ives, Carbis Bay, and the iconic Godrevy Lighthouse. Guests here usually spot seals and sometimes dolphins, not to mention countless sea birds. Of course you are also right by the coastal path and can walk for hours in either direction though marram-cloaked sand dunes or along heather and thrift carpeted cliff tops.
Things we love…
This is a friendly and homely holiday retreat, and makes good value accommodation in this very popular beach-side location. It’s big enough for a family of four, but is small enough to make an intimate bolt-hole for two as well. As the property is all on one floor, all the facilities are easily accessible — great for young families. And of course the beach and café are right at hand too (each about 100 yards away, close but not too close!).
Sandlands comes with the added benefit of being suitable for guest with some mobility impairment. The access is ramped with a hand-rail, and the bathroom is equipped with an easy-flush automatic shower toilet (combines toilet, bidet and warm air drying in one unit), and wet-room style shower with folding doors. This well loved chalet is a memorable place to stay, with all you need for a great holiday in one of the most sought-after locations for a holiday in Cornwall.
