The Retreat

A breathtaking luxury home situated on the Lizard Peninsula that boasts uninterrupted views across to Kynance Cove and Mount’s Bay far in the distance. Sleeping up to six across three bedrooms, this pet-friendly retreat is an ideal spot to relax and feel the stresses of day-to-day life melt away.

Pednagothollan (pronounced “Ped-na-goth-o-lan”) is a luxurious holiday home that has lots to offer. With stunning views, a large private garden with decking and cosy log burner for the chillier months, this is the perfect space to return to after a long day exploring the Lizard. And you won’t need to go that far if you do fancy some coastal adventuring, as the South West Coast Path is right on your doorstep.

Inside Pednagothollan

Pednagothollan is a cherished and unique Victorian home stylishly appointed for guests. The lower level of the home hosts an open plan kitchen, dining and relaxed lounge area. Your well-equipped kitchen has wooden worktops, a deep double Belfast sink, a large island, convection oven, induction hob, fridge/freezer, coffee maker, flat-screen television and dishwasher. There is also a wine cooler in the nearby utility room. The dining room with space for ten guests was made for entertaining, which extends onto the sitting area complete with log burner and glass sliding doors, giving you the enjoyment of the coastal views from the comfort of the sofa.

In the living room you’ll have stunning sea views of Kynance Cove, comfortable seating for all and a smart 42” TV, the perfect place to curl up in front of a film with family and friends. Tucked around to the side of the house you’ll find the snug, a calm space where you can escape, kick back with a good book or some music.

Heading upstairs you’ll find three bedrooms; the impressive principal room hosts an emperor-size bed, an ensuite bathroom, sofa and TV, as well as bay windows with views that look out across Kynance Cove. Bedroom 2 is a king room with sea views and Bedroom 3 is a twin. Completing the inside of Pednagothollan is the stylish family bathroom with its decadent sunken bathtub and a walk-in shower.

Out and about

Pednagothollan has an abundance of outside space and seating areas, ideal for hosting all the family together. Accessed through the kitchen/dining room, snug and the front of the house, you have an impressive multi-level decking area with alfresco dining for six, a comfortable rattan corner sofa, deck chairs, sun loungers and a gas barbecue. There is also a lawn, with neat boarders, and a children’s play set with a slide, swings and a climbing frame — great to keep the littler ones in your party busy. Leading on from the well-kept garden are farmers fields and dramatic cliff tops, making Pednagothollan the perfect spot for watching Cornish sunsets.

There is also private parking for two cars. Please note, entry to the drive way is a little tight.

With coastal walks and small coves aplenty and right on your doorstep, you won’t ever be short of things to do. The South West Coast Path is easily accessible from the home, and you can walk to the village in less than five minutes — here you can find the famous Ann’s pasties (arguably the best in Cornwall), Tregullas Organic Farm Shop and of course The Top House Inn and The Witchball pub (the locals’ pub) with fresh fish daily from Cadgwith Cove. There are also numerous independent shops and cafés. Further afield you have a host of picturesque villages, coves and beaches to explore. Do check out Roskilly’s Farm with their famous Ice Cream Parlour.

Things we love

Pednagothollan has everything you need for an idyllic Cornish getaway. While it’s hard to tear yourself away from the home, we suggest you take advantage of the home’s special location. Walk to Kynance Cove, famed for its turquoise waters, sandy cove and brilliant café. Swim, fish or enjoy a cream tea or get lucky and spot a rare Cornish chough. Or you can explore the rest of the Lizard, including the picturesque fishing village of Cadgwith with its amazing thatched pub, or the epic surfing beach at Poldhu where you can learn from the experts.

After a long day’s adventuring, we love that you can easily relax in this Victorian home, thoughtfully styled and improved by its owners. Take advantage of the local seafood and produce, and cook up a meal for the family, flop in the sitting room in front of the TV, or spend hours enjoying the show-stopping views from the decking and garden. Pednagothollan is your place for just a week or two, but it will surely stay with you forever.

A real 'home from home'
We have had a wonderful holiday here. The house is really welcoming, friendly and warm - a real 'home from home'. The kitchen is really well stocked and as a multi-generational party we have enjoyed lots of family time around the island. We haven't travelled far but enjoyed exploring a number of local beaches, as well as Godolphin national trust. The garden is fab and we have been very lucky with the weather. The views are just stunning and lots of memories made.

Location

THE LIZARD

The Lizard village is almost at the very tip of the wild and rugged Lizard Peninsula. Lizard Point, with its lighthouse and old lifeboat station, is mainland Britain’s most southerly point. The village has a host of cafes, shops and a couple of pubs. It is in an excellent location to explore the dramatic coastal path, pretty fishing settlements, the stunning flora and fauna, and famous beaches like Kynance Cove. Whatever you’re looking for, this rural patch of the UK has lots to offer.

Travel times

  • Pednagothollan is about 20 miles from the nearest mainline station at Redruth. Regular and convenient services run from all over the UK.
  • The Lizard village is approximately 11 miles from Helston on the B3294. Driving time from London is just almost six hours in normal traffic, while Exeter is over two hours away.

Things we love

  • Mainland Britain's most southerly point — a very wild place to be
  • One of the best places to walk the South West Coast Path
  • Astonishing wildlife, seabirds, flora, marine life and geology

  • A special place

Wow! This is the most homely and fabulous holiday cottage we have ever stayed in! Thank you for making it a special place to stay. We loved the walks around the Lizard, Mullion, Coverack and St Michael's Mount. We have been so lucky with the weather that we managed to use the loungers in the garden - a real treat at this time of year! The house is so well stocked with a chef's haven of gadgets and utensils, a real delight. Thank you so much, we'll definitely be back!

  • Peaceful

It's been a lovely, peaceful week in Pednagothollan. This is my first stay away since covid, and it's been a couple of years since being at the Lizard. Also the first time in about 20 years since being at Kynance Cove!
