Outside and in the area
Captain’s Rest is situated on ‘Carrack Dhu’, a quiet residential road. It has its own dedicated private parking for one car to the rear. The front of the apartment faces south and fully enjoys the summer sunlight. The small terraced garden at the front of the building is a sympathetically planted with exotics and has communal seating where you can to enjoy a sundowner and take in St Ives’ fresh air. It’s just a five minute walk to the surfing beach of Porthmeor, or the sheltered family beaches (Harbour or Porthminster), as well as the Tate gallery and the Barbara Hepworth museum.
It is also very easy to access to the coast path from here, so you can be out of St Ives and enjoying the dramatic and rugged coastline of the Penwith peninsular without needing the car. Zennor, with a great pub, café and historic church is a great destination for an energetic and hugely memorable day’s walk, along one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the UK. For golfers there is an 18 hole par 3 at Tregenna Castle and an 18 hole challenging Links course at Lelant.
Things we love…
Captain’s Rest is modern and well equipped, it will leave you wanting nothing more on your holiday. The owners have thought of lots of details to make it extra special. There is a toy box filled with all sorts of games for all ages and this coastal themed property makes you feel on holiday as soon as you walk through the door. You will not stop discovering little details for your whole stay.
A little bit of history; this building was originally built for a sea captain. You may notice that this is the centre house on the street of Carrack Dhu, and the largest, with its central door and two side windows to either side. The neighbouring houses were built on later, extending both sides down the street for the captain’s crew and other prominent local residents. Now this apartment is owned once more by a modern-day sea-going Captain!
