Forever Cornwall is built on relationships — with guests of course, but equally importantly with property owners. Starting to let a property can be daunting, and letting an agency take the strain after you have been used to managing your own lets, or switching agencies, can also feel like a big step. Here, some of our owners talk about working with us in their own words.

First impressions, and long-lasting ones

Claire and Michael have owned their cliff-top holiday home for many years, letting it themselves through Owner’s Direct. As a busy professional couple, they where looking for a locally-based agent who would make life a bit easier for them, and achieve better results. Claire says “We have recently joined Forever Cornwall as cottage owners and have found Phil and Maria to be extremely helpful with everything to do with setting up our holiday rental: from suggestions for special touches to contacts with local workmen.” After one month of marketing we have exceeded the gross booking revenue for the previous year. Claire continues, “We chose their company as we were very impressed with their website and liked the idea of a small, local enterprise. So far we are delighted with their service!”.

But of course it’s the long term that matters most. Calvin and Erica live in Cheshire. They visit their holiday home in Cornwall regularly as they are keen surfers and time by the beach is a vital antidote to their busy professional lives. Forever Cornwall has been the agent for their beach hose for three years and counting. Calvin says “Forever Cornwall are simply fabulous letting agents. Jane, the owner of a lovely in Padstow, lives in London. She cherishes her bolt-hole in Cornwall, but like so many owners has limited time. Jane was initially cautious about letting, but explains; “Nothing I would like more than to sing the praises of Forever Cornwall. Phil and Maria could not have been more helpful in directing me to make Marble Arch even better than it was when we used it purely as a family. Their ideas and knowledge of how to bring the best out of an interior suitable for people is superb. I had for some time been looking for someone whose ‘spirit’ you could see quite clearly from a web site and who would encourage the sort of people we knew would appreciate our little quirky retreat. March Arch has only been in their capable hands hardly a year [at February 2016] and the results have been great. Their commitment to making it such a success is truly wonderful. Starting out; Nikki’s story

Nikki emailed us excitedly having just bought on a two-bedroomed beach chalet in Cornwall. Amazingly, her and her husband had made an offer without seeing it, having previously researched the area carefully. We paid an initial visit almost immediately and discussed ways of making improvements that would be really worthwhile, helping the couple to prioritise. As the weeks progressed we were able to help by recommending tradesmen too. Here’s Nikki’s story.

“Owning a chalet at Gwithian is something which was long-aspired to, hard-worked for, and slowly achieved.  Needless to say, our little piece of paradise — which is first and foremost our family’s holiday home — is much-treasured.  So, the decision as to who to choose as a ‘safe pair of hands’ to manage the rental side of things for us was made with great care. We even had a week’s holiday as guests of Forever Cornwall to test the waters (completely unbeknown to them at the time, of course!).

As guests, we appreciated Forever Cornwall’s fuss-free online booking procedure, and the plain-English instructions that followed. All communication with the office was quickly dealt with in a friendly, approachable manner. Their local knowledge was evident, and they really do have a genuine affection for the area. All very helpful.

The accommodation itself was the right mix of smart-but-relaxed, and we were truly made to feel welcome and at home.  Albeit a special home! As new owners, we approached Phil and Maria for guidance with our renovations, and they were very happy to advise. Consequently, we have been able to achieve the same mix of smart-but-relaxed which means that our guests have wonderful holidays to remember — and tell others about. We have been very pleasantly surprised at how well our guests care for our chalet. The Forever Cornwall clientele are a discerning bunch but, it turns out, a very respectful one.

The Forever Cornwall team take care of all the marketing. We have been delighted at the occupancy rates that they have achieved. We really didn’t want our beachside property standing empty for weeks on end, and it certainly doesn’t. Forever Cornwall are the only ones who deal direct with our guests. Which means that they deal with any problems, not us.  They also deal with the money side of things, and communicate direct with our housekeeping team. So we have no hassles.  And we just love reading the feedback from guests who have had magical holidays in our favourite place. Good communication is key in any partnership, and we have always found the office quick to respond.  Owners need to be good communicators too.

Really, as an owner, you just need to make sure that your property is kept to a high standard, and leave them to do the rest.  It can be difficult at first, trusting someone else with ‘your baby’, but Phil and Maria know that and are very patient. So, if you are considering placing a property with a holiday rental agency, we say do your homework! It is still early days for us (just starting our second season), but we have been extremely happy with the Forever Cornwall team. So far, the whole experience has been nothing but positive.”

Exceeding expectations

There are no guarantees when letting your holiday home, but it’s our job to give you a realistic evaluation. We try not to promise the world because it’s better to start your letting enterprise with a sense of realism. Jane and Dougie, a couple with extensive experience in property and tourism, but not self-catering lettings, decided to rent out their coastal property in 2015. They explain; “After discussions with several other letting companies we selected to go with Phil and Maria from Forever Cornwall. The services and advice they offered were very professional and they were highly motivated. Once the bookings started, they exceeded our expectations, and our first year was a resounding success.
