Buying local in St Austell and Fowey River

The gentle countryside and mild climate in this area are perfect for grape growing and you’ll find two of Cornwall’s vineyards here, as well as a cidery and an award-winning gin distillery. This area of south Cornwall has several farm shops and a brilliant weekly market in Lostwithial, whilst the towns of Fowey, St Austell and Lostwithial are foodie hubs where you’ll find delis, fishmongers and grocers.

Lobbs Farm Shop

(Pictured) Family-run farm shop and cafe based on the grounds of the beautiful Lost Gardens of Heligan, with much of the produce coming from the family’s neighbouring farms.

Lostwithiel Farmers’ Market

The longest running traditional produce market in Cornwall, this market sells seasonal produce, bread, meat, preserves, cakes, arts, crafts and other locally produced goods. Fourth Saturday of the month 10-1.

Trevithick Farm Shop

Award-winning farm shop with cafe selling fresh produce and artisan goodies from across Cornwall and the West Country. Cafe next door.

Colwith Farm Shop, Par

Well stocked farm shop on this potato farm near Lostwithial. In recent years they have diversified and now have a vodka distillery on site, too!

Delis, fishmongers and village stores

Mevagissey Wet Fish

Husband and wife team Phil and Kim sell Cornish varieties, crab and lobster landed locally at Mevagissey each day from their small shop on the quay.

Moores of Mevagissey

Fantastic little shop and deli just off the harbour selling plenty of Cornish treats, from seasonal fruit and veg, Cornish drinks to ice cream and cheese.

Lerryn River Stores

(Pictured) Friendly village shop and post office in pretty Lerryn on the River Fowey selling produce from local suppliers, as well as ice creams and pasties.

Fill Good, St Austell

This family-run business in the Par Market Food Hall and a wide selection of foods including pasta, rice, cereals, snacks, dried fruits and nuts, plus cleaning and toiletry products.

The Refill Hut, St Austell

A packaging free refill and eco shop in London Apprentice, just outside St Austell, selling a wide range of products from coffee beans to candles and muesli to milk.

 

Vineyards, distilleries and cider makers

Knightor Winery, St Austell

Four acres of vineyards and orchards producing still and sparkling wines and their own English Vermouth. Pop in to stock up or join wine tastings or guided tours of the winery.

Bosue Vineyard, St Ewe

Family-run vineyard near the Lost Gardens of Heligan producing white and rosé wines and brandy. Bottles can be collected from the vineyard or local delivery available.

Wasted Apple, St Austell

Cider, vinegar and apple juice makers based in St Austell made using unwanted apples from orchards across Cornwall’s. Produce available to collect from shop on site.

Fowey Valley Cider

Family-run cidery and distillery, producing Sparkling Vintage Cider, Foy Gin and cider brandy. Visit their shop at the distillery to stock up and for free tastings.
