Kestle Barton Art Gallery open for 2019

The marvellous Kestle Barton Art Gallery will soon be open for business once more! Nestled on the banks of the Helford River, the doors of this contemporary art gallery will be open once more from the 13th of April. Until June 2nd, Jem Southam, a leading British landscape photographer, will be taking residency at Kestle Barton Art Gallery. The recurring theme behind the work is that of walking in nature, and will feature images from walks all over the country at different times.

To accompany his work, there will also be a programme of walks available to visitors. Two walks are on offer on Thursday 30 May: a Bird Walk with Math Southam and a Photo Walk with Jem Southam. A weekend of programming at the end of the exhibition, Representing Nature (1-2 June), will include contributions from Jem Southam.

There will be further contributions from well-known naturalist/writer Mark Cocker (Crow Country) and the musician and poet, Virginia Astley; who recently published her debut poetry collection, The English River (2018). Astley has been part of Kestle Barton since its inception, and the gallery will be running poetry workshops with her on the morning of the 1st of June, and afternoon of the 2nd. Both workshops will be paired with either a talk from Jem Southam and Mark Cocker (1st June) or a moth trap investigation and walk with Cocker (2nd June).

So, bring your cameras, walking boots and questions for this immersive exhibition – and whilst you’re at it, watch the Kestle Barton gardens and wildflower meadows come to life. If you’ve any questions before visiting, do get in touch with the team over at Kestle Barton: info@kestlebarton.co.uk.
