The Best of Cornwall’s Local Stores

It’s no secret that Cornwall offers some cracking produce – from gin and fizz to cheese and biscuits. It is, therefore, no surprise that during your stay in the county, you’ll never be far from some mouthwatering food shops stocking more delicious food with much fewer food-miles than your local supermarket. Here’s a list of our favourites dotted around the county:

Cornish Fresh, Mawgan Porth

Closest to retreats in: Mawgan Porth, Newquay

This beachfront food market stocks fresh bread, pastries and pasties as well as pantry staples, spirits and wines and kitchen and bathroom items. Within walking distance from some of our properties, this excellent shop is also offering stonebaked takeaway pizzas which are a must if it happens to be lunchtime! Open all year round but do check opening times as they vary from season to season.

Great Cornish Food Store, Truro

Closest to retreats in: Newquay

Just outside of Cornwall’s only city, next door to a handy Waitrose is this grassroots shop. With shelves stacked high with only the finest of the county’s produce, plus a cafe wonderfully demonstrating just how delicious Cornwall’s food can taste, this store is a great place to locate Cornish food and drink. Home to a fishmonger, butcher and deli counter, you can pick up plenty of your shopping list here – and during the summer you can also pick up some fabulous bunches of wildflowers, too!

Trevaskis Farm Shop, Hayle

Closest to retreats in: Mount’s Bay, Gwithian, St Ives

Only a couple of minutes from the A30, Trevaskis is more than simply a farm shop – but with an extensive butcher, fresh fruit and veg and deli offering, if you want to sample some of Cornwall’s produce then look no further. Trevaskis Farm is also a great place to spend a day, with a ‘pick your own’ fruit and veg concept throughout summer and autumn, a family-friendly restaurant and pathways leading past piglets, sheep, ponies and cows, it’s a wholesome day out for all involved!

Constantine Stores, Constantine

Closest to retreats in: Helford

This small, quiet village near Falmouth and The Helford is home to tardis-esque village shop. With an unassuming facade, this store is home to plenty of fresh fruit and veg, locally made pasties and sausage rolls and dairy produce. The main attraction of this shop, however, is the quite literally unbelievable stock of wines, beers and spirits. Stocking all the locally made favourites in gins and rums, Constantine Stores is home to over 1000 whiskies and is a spirit connoisseur’s paradise. Wherever you’re staying in the county, this one’s well worth a visit.

The Allotment Deli, St Ives

Closest to retreats in: St Ives, Gwithian

This one may be small, but it is packed to the rafters with deliciousness. From local fresh cheeses, more fruit and veg than you could want, local fish and homemade pasties, tarts, bread and much more, you won’t be going hungry in St Ives. Located right in the heart of the town, make sure you stop in.

Hawksfield, Wadebridge

Closest to retreats in: Port Gaverne, Newquay

A collection of many different businesses, head to Strong Adolfo’s for a brilliant brunch before perusing the shelves of Bintwo at The Arc. With local produce as well as authentic italian foods, and a great selection of gluten, wheat and dairy free products, there’s plenty to choose from at this independently run little shop. Head to the back shelves and find an Aladdin’s cave of wines to choose from too.
