The Retreat

Dune Lodge is a luxury holiday home set in an iconic location that commands panoramic views over the dunes to St Ives and Godrevy lighthouse. The property has been appointed to the highest standards to create a unique and memorable holiday experience. Dune Lodge can be rented in conjunction with adjoining Dune House, subject to availability, together offering accommodation for up to 12.

Short breaks are available on selected dates from September – April (Friday or Monday arrivals only, 3 night minimum) If your desired dates are not bookable online, or you wish to book a stay for more than seven nights please contact the team here.

Dune Lodge is positioned to overlook miles of wild sand dunes. With no immediate neighbouring properties save for the main house, this a very unique and special property for Gwithian.

You will approach the property through private gates (shared only with Dune House) and find your holiday home set in a large lawned garden. The open-plan living, dining and kitchen areas are located on the second floor, which really makes the most of the spectacular views over the bay and surrounding countryside. You have your own sheltered balcony area accessed via sliding doors from the living area. Down the beautiful oak stairs are a king-sized double master bedroom with en-suite, and a twin, along with a separate family bathroom.

Inside Dune Lodge

Entering the property you will want to head straight for the first floor up the oak staircase. Here you will find one spacious open area with a dramatic vaulted ceiling, beautifully designed to take advantage of the westerly views over the bay to St Ives, and easterly views over the farmland to the pretty village of Gwithian and the rolling Cornish hills beyond.

The large, luxury kitchen and dining area for six (allowing for dining guests), and comfortable lounge area are all here. You have a beautiful contemporary Morsø wood burner for winter nights, a large Smart TV, and a dramatic glazed doors sliding open to give access to your private balcony which has rattan seating for two — ideal for enjoying a tipple of choice whilst watching the sunset over the sea’s horizon.

Downstairs are two comfortable and snug bedrooms. The master has a king-sized bed and an adjoining en suite shower room. Next to this is a twin bedroom with two single beds that can be zip-and-linked together to make a super-king sized bed if you prefer this option. A luxury family bathroom completes the accommodation, with beautiful stone tiling, Villeroy and Boch fittings, and a waterfall shower over the bath.

Outside Dune Lodge

Outside you have a large lawned garden that catches sun from morning to mid afternoon, with furniture and barbecue for al fresco dining, and a large shed for storing beach gear. You will be able to walk to the huge beach at Gwithian in around five minutes via meandering pathways through the sand dunes. Choose between heading for the popular main beach with its café, equipment hire, and seasonal lifeguards— or the vast expanses of sand between Gwithian and Hayle, where you can enjoy as much space as you could wish for. The coastal path leads off in both directions and you can stroll as far or as near as you like. Wildlife is abundant here, so be on the lookout for seals, a myriad of sea-birds and sometimes dolphins…

Things we love …

Dune Lodge has been stunningly architect-designed and built with exceptional detailing using sympathetic local materials. The imaginative layout, clever use of architectural glazing, and first-floor balcony provides privacy to the property. The generous outdoor space on all sides (a rare feature in Gwithian) together with ample parking, make this probably the most unique accommodation choice in the area. Dune Lodge is all about the view, and the reverse level design brings out the best. On warm days you can sit on the balcony with a tipple, and on cold days you can pull the huge glazed doors shut and hunker down next to the fire. Either option offers views straight out to the ocean over the dunes — the sunsets over St Ives Bay are legendary.

If you want to put a bit of space between yourself and the world, then Dune Lodge is for you. Equally you are moments from Sunset Surf Cafe or the village for when you want good food and company. Dune Lodge is a lovely combination of indulgence and practicality.

Renting Dune House & Lodge together.

The two properties can be interconnected and booked together offering flexible accommodation for up to 12 guests, ideal for multi-generational groups or for friendship families sharing. When booked separately each property is private.

Wow!
Wow! Wow! Wow! What a lovely lodge. Very well thought out. All mod cons and creature comforts. A stroll, all at your doorstep, to the dunes and beach. Beautiful views, sea, sun and rock pools — paradise! The coastal walk at Hell's Mouth was stunning and just down the road — Portreath, was so pretty. Thank you for the welcome goodies we enjoyed it all, ate outside on the best sunny day and watched the wonderful sunset. The best holiday break for a long time.

Location

GWITHIAN

The beaches of Godrevy and Gwithian Towans are tucked away treasures on the North coast of Cornwall, backed by picturesque sand dunes that run alongside them. These unspoilt, golden beaches stretch along the easterly side of St Ives Bay, and as west facing beaches they bask in the summer sun all day long. With several surf schools lining the beach, Gwithian is a surfing mecca and is an area perfect for those wanting to try surfing for the first time or polish up their skill!

  • Amazing

Our third visit — did way less activities this time so was great to spend more time at Dune Lodge. Had many BBQ's and dinners in the windy sunshine and a few over on the dunes in the evening. Dune Lodge continued to be amazing and always will.

  • What a place

Wow — what a place. First time at Dune Lodge and we will be back! We walked the beach on a rainy day from Gwithian to Hayle and luckily discovered Lula Shack‚ such an amazing little place. We had a bbq one evening which was great as that corner is lovely and sheltered. Thank you so much.

  • The views across St Ives every morning just cannot be beaten

We have had a brilliant week at Dune Lodge. Waking up to the views across St Ives every morning just cannot be beaten. We love the beaches and the dunes around here and whenever we are in Cornwall, we always get drawn to this place. We have had some lovely walks along the beach with the dog, up around the headland to see the seals with their pups. Ted (the dog) just loves bounding along the beach and paddling in the rock pools. We also took a trip across to Praa Sands and St Michael's Mount. Can't believe the other side of Cornwall is so close. I am certain we will be back and hopefully we can persuade some friends to join us. Wow!

  • Blown away

We've had the most wonderful time here at Dune Lodge. We've been absolutely blown away by the property, location and most of all the amazing sunsets. We've stayed in various places throughout Cornwall and feel like we have stumbled across a gem here — we'll definitely be back!

  • Amazing

A really stunning place to spend our week with amazing double aspect views. We have had the most fabulous weather (August heatwave), the colour of the sea has definitely matched the Med where we were in previous summers — so beautiful. We adore The Towans, wandering through the grassy hillsides to get to rock pools, miles of fine sand and amazing surf. We've certainly made the most of the waves this week and the kids have been in heaven riding their bodyboards. Thank you for a fabulous week.

  • Totally awesome escape

Our second visit to this totally awesome escape. I still feel as in awe as last time. Ticked the bucket list by snorkelling in the UK with 'Tonic of the Sea', Katie Maggs off Newlyn and Penzance. Such a memorable experience and highly recommend. The dunes provide limitless wandering with the dogs. Dune Lodge is legendary, thank you.

  • Designed exceptionally

We had a really wonderful time staying in Dune Lodge, the house has been designed exceptionally. We arrived at the start of the big storms which meant outside activities with the children was not ideal but the house was so spacious and so comfortable that staying in was actually a positive. The views from the living room are awesome and the open plan space is just great! The kitchen was very well equipped with everything we could possibly need. This is our fourth time booking through Forever Cornwall and I have to say the experience gets better every time.

The Laird family — February 2020
  • Views are spectacular

The views are spectacular and it was so relaxing chilling on the sofa admiring the views and watching the massive TV! The surrounding dunes, beach and general area were stunning. Great for walking, running to see the seals and surfing, we loved it! We will definitely be going to Dune Lodge again soon.

  • Unique and special

Thank you for a wonderful stay at the beautiful Dune Lodge. The house had everything we needed, perfect for our family. We loved the location, so close to the beach and the Sunset Café. So easy just to carry our surfboards across the dunes to get straight onto the stunning beach. It’s definitely a unique and special holiday home that we plan to return to.
