Local beaches and the surrounding area

The Pebble is ideally located for the beautiful beach of Lusty Glaze, just five minutes walk away. It’s family friendly, but also has a great watersports centre offering climbing, surfing and jet-skiing — as well as the lovely café and restaurant, making it well worth the walk down the steps! Fistral is not far away and is arguably the best surf beach in the UK, and is home to the annual Boardmasters surf and music festival, held in high summer. There are numerous other beaches nearby; choose from the sheltered waters of Porth, the sweeping sands of Watergate Bay, tiny and pristine Porth Joke (locally known as Polly Joke), vast Mawgan Porth, wild Holywell Bay or the timeless beauty of Crantock (rated by the BBC’s “Coast” programme as one of the UK’s top 8 beaches). Being right on the coast also means you are directly connected to countless miles of the South West Coast Path. You also have family attractions at hand ranging from Waterworld to Newquay Zoo. For a food experience treat yourself to a table at Lusty Glaze, Rick Stein’s or one of the other excellent beach eateries in Newquay — or to fine dining at Jamie Oliver’s “15 Cornwall” a little further away. There are local shops 5 minutes walk away, and the harbour and town centre of Newquay, with its growing reputation for excellent restaurants and stylish cafés, is also at hand just a 15 minute walk away.

Things we love

At The Pebble you are not only spoilt with beautiful sea views, but you are also moments from getting out there and enjoying the sea and coastline. The south west coastal path is minutes away as well as all the fabulous beaches and attractions. Making the most of the dining opportunities is a must; everything from surfer’s breakfasts, friendly pubs and fine dining restaurants are all on offer in Newquay and surrounding area. And what better way to properly relax than to return to The Pebble at the end of the day and enjoy watching the seascape in the evening light, from the comfort of this stunning holiday home.

Blown away with the experience!
Not our first time in Newquay but WOW! The views are stunning, especially sunsets. And the apartment has that homey feel to it. All I can say is that I am blown away with the experience and will have to come back soon.

The newquay guide

Beach near Newquay holiday cottages by Forever Cornwall

A beach lover's dream

An obvious draw for many is the world-class surf that can be found on most of Newquay’s beaches, however it is just as exciting to watch from your sunbathing spot on the sand. In the 7.5 miles of coastline including and surrounding Newquay there are ten beaches, most of which are at least half a mile long — some even bigger at low tide, providing plenty of space to explore.

Lifeguards cover most of these beaches from March through until September and you’ll be able to watch the surfers harness the Atlantic rollers from the shore — or join them if you’re brave enough! Whichever sandy stretch you choose to relax on, you’ll be spoilt for choice – and the best thing is, regardless of where you choose to lay your towel, you are never more than 10 minutes from a shop, cafe or restaurant.

Fabulous food

Newquay is one of the largest towns in Cornwall and offers a huge, varied choice of eateries. The world-class surf offering has brought with it a multitude of cultures to the town, with Australian, Indonesian, Italian and Portuguese restaurants strung along the streets. There are plenty of fantastic seafood restaurants to experience too, most sourcing their fish straight from the local harbour so you’ll be dining on the freshest ingredients! Whether you after a cosy roast or award-winning meal, classic fish and chips or hand made burgers,  you won’t be going hungry when you stay in one of our holiday cottages in Newquay.

Walk coves and countryside

Newquay is a vibrant hive of activity and there is so much to do in and around the town centre that the walking opportunities can be overshadowed. But head out of town and you’ll discover cove after secret cove (Polly Joke is a particularly beautiful one), or walk amongst the fields of scarlet poppies that bloom on the cliffs between Holywell Bay and Crantock.

Walk out to one of many of Newquay’s headlands, watching for blow holes, a particularly spectacular experience when the wind whips up the crashing waves below. Venture a little further and walk the coast path to the dramatic Bedruthan Steps — bring the car with you and wait till nightfall to experience the dark skies for perfect star gazing.

Beaches
Beach near holiday cottages in Newquay by Forever Cornwall

Fistral

What better place to get to grips with a surfboard than Fistral? This world class surfing beach often boasts perfect waves and its golden sands are a constant lure for families, plus there are lifeguards from 30th March until 28th October and there are plenty of amenities very close by. Dogs are welcome on this beach all year round.

Beach near holiday cottages in Newquay by Forever Cornwall

Towan Beach

Towan Beach is right in the heart of Newquay – mere moments from the town centre. With Newquay harbour to the west of the beach and the impressive ‘Island’ with its suspension bridge linking it to the mainland it’s a pretty amazing setting for a day at the beach! This beach has full lifeguard cover from 5th of May until the 30th of September, and dogs are welcome all year round.

Newquay Beach in vicinity of holiday cottages by Forever Cornwall

Porth Beach

Head east out of town and find Porth Beach – a sheltered stretch of sand that, when the tide is out, is much bigger than it looks! It is a ‘blue flag’ beach, meaning it has been recognised for its cleanliness and water quality – and with lifeguard cover (from 19th May to 30th September) and a cafe overlooking the beach, Porth is a perfect family friendly beach. Dogs are welcome from 1st of October until 30th of April, from 1st May to 30th September there is a seasonal ban in operation and dog are only able to go on the beach from 7pm – 8am.

Beach near holiday accommodation in Newquay by Forever Cornwall

Lusty Glaze

Lusty Glaze is a little more hidden than Fistral or Towan but it is utterly beautiful. Sheltered by high cliffs with a fabulous restaurant on the beach and atmospheric, free(!) sundowner live music sessions during the summer, Lusty Glaze is a great place to be. There’s also an activity centre on the beach, so whether you fancy surfing, abseiling or dodgeball, there’s something for everyone at this beach.

Watergate Bay

Watergate Bay is a vast, two-mile stretch of golden sand on the outskirts of Newquay. Popular with surfers, sun seekers and dog walkers, there’s plenty of room on this beach for everyone. A small village with the same name has formed around the beach, with three good restaurants – and plenty of surf schools, of course! There is a car park near the beach, making for easy access, and it’s lifeguarded from the 5th of May until the 30th of September – as well as being dog-friendly all year round.

Beach near self-catering holiday accommodation in Newquay by Forever Cornwall

Crantock

The River Gannel flows from the approach to Newquay right around the outskirts of the town and out into the Gannel Estuary before reaching the sea. Here, there is an idyllic beach that sits either side of the river as it makes its way down the sand to meet the sea. Crantock is a great place for kids, who can play under the watchful eye of the lifeguards (present from the 19th of May until the 30th of September). Dogs are welcome all year round.

Food & drink
Newquay restaurant near holiday cottages by Forever Cornwall

Fish and seafood

With a sea view to die for, dishes inspired by fish brought in on the local day boats and a brilliant wine list, The Fish House on Fistral Beach is not one to miss. Also on Fistral is Rick Stein’s Restaurant, a relaxed, family friendly restaurant serving up dishes such as classic fish and chips to prawn tacos. Emily Scott’s restaurant in neighbouring Watergate Bay is worth a visit for its delicious seafood and local ethos and is an hour’s walk around the headland from Newquay.

Restaurant at Mawgan Porth near to Forever Cornwall holiday cottages

Pubs and inns

With epic views of Crantock Beach and the Pentire Headland, The Bowgie Inn offers pub grub and chilled vibes, and is a great place to take the family or pit stop on a walk (it’s just off the coast path). For gastropubs, the lovely Lewinnick Lodge and the Plume of Feathers at Mitchell are all favourites, as well as other more traditional village pubs offering Sunday roasts.

Cool cafes

The crab and lobster served at Fern Pit Cafe, on the East Pentire headland, is caught by cafe’s own fishing boat. It arguably boats the best cafe views in the town, too. Box and Barber is a new offering on Newquay’s Fore Street with a strong ethical ethos — expect burritos, smoothies, juices, big salads, açai bowls and freshly baked goodies delivered every morning by local bakeries. Slightly out of town (but only just) Heart and Soul is a community cafe on an organic orchard. Most of the ingredients come from the site.

Pasties

Shop local

In recent years, a flurry of places selling local produce has opened in the north coast’s largest town, including a new vineyard, several sourdough bakeries and delis. Its weekly farmers’ market, held in the bustling heart of the town, is a great place to get hold of all your fresh produce and Cornish goodies to take back home.

Things to do

Newquay wildlife

Newquay may not seem a likely wildlife wonderland, but with Blue Reef Aquarium and Newquay Zoo less than ten minutes from all our Newquay retreats, animal-lovers will be delighted at the opportunities to get up close and personal with some amazing species. From reef sharks to giant octopi, the aquarium has plenty to see and much more to learn — they do a huge amount of conservation. This is similar at Newquay Zoo, where the staff pride themselves on their dedication to conservation and their breeding programmes. Spot lions, sloths and monkeys at this family-friendly attraction. Also check out Newquay Wild Activities for an amazing day out on their fantastic Rockpool Ramble or Wildlife Walk, which showcases the wonderful wildlife along the coast.

Surf lesson in progress near Mawgan Porth holiday cottages by Forever Cornwall

Surfing Lessons

As the mecca of surfing, no holiday to Newquay is complete without a lesson. Whether you’re a total novice or looking for some expert advice, get hold of Cornish Wave and get in the water. The guys will get you kitted out with a board and wetsuit and take you out into the waves to give it a try – who knows, you might find a new talent?! Cornish Wave cater for all ages and abilities – a great way to spend a family day out or the perfect activity for a group of friends.

Trerice House & Gardens

From March, the Elizabethan manor house and it’s grounds of National Trust’s Trerice, is open to the public. Trerice’s house will take you through the history of the estate, while the tranquil gardens are the perfect place to stroll through and relax. Enjoy a cream tea in the cafe and peruse the shelves of the shop – why not buy a plant souvenir?

  • Special

Our second visit and as good, if not better, than the first! Thank you for making our stay so special. This was the R&R we were so desperately seeking as a family. Glorious weather was a real bonus with some impressive sunsets to beat!

  • Amazing touches!

You never know when you book an apartment but....my immediate thought was the cleanliness, fully equipped apartment and amazing touches. But....then you open the doors...the views...the sunsets...the beaches...all are off the charts. We watched the sunsets, walked to Watergate and Fistral beaches. Amazing set up at Lusty Glaze itself. Kitchen was fully equipped and had everything we needed and more to have the best break. No need to choose next year's holiday, location or venue.

Weather looked promising so booked a last minute week away. I'd often walked past these apartments and loved the location — perfect for sunsets with a G&T! Have used Forever Cornwall a few times and the apartments have all been beautifully furnished and of great quality. This one is another for the 'return list'. Thank you for the welcome gifts and your help during my stay. Fistral has always been a place I love out of season and the headlands either side are great for watching the world go by. Thanks so much.

  • What a lovely place and location!

What a lovely place and location! Great views and very relaxing place to spend a break. We had mixed weather but visited the Eden Project, Padstow, Port Isaac and Truro all within 30 minutes drive. We hardly needed to use the car as everything we needed was on our doorstep. Had a few days on the beach and walked to Porth and Fistral Beach. We walked from Towan Beach to Lusty Glaze along the sea line. Lusty Glaze was our favourite as quiet and down the road — plus numerous steps! Thank you for the wonderful accommodation, we hope to visit again soon.

The Curley family — June 2018
  • A lovely apartment

  • Fabulous location

Fabulous location — only needed the car for day trips! Walked to Watergate Bay one morning — very bracing but well worth it for the views. Walked along the coastal path to Fistral Beach via the headland — again wonderful views and worked up a good appetite for the pasties from the baker around the corner! Had two amazing meals at Lusty Glaze Restaurant — huge Sunday roast and a superb meal on our last night — can recommend the mussels, scallops and the seafood linguine — amazing! There was live music too so a perfect finish to a wonderful week at The Pebble. We will be back!

  • Beautiful, comfortable, well equipped apartment

A wonderful week spend at Lusty Glaze. Beautiful and comfortable, well equipped apartment which we all enjoyed spending time in, thank you! A week of sunshine in February meant lots of walking, eating, drinking and exploring Cornwall. We spend a lot of time throughout each year in Cornwall and always find February half term the best week for visiting our favourite places. It's always so quiet. We would definitely rebook!

The Gee family — February 2018
  • A fantastic place to come and relax away from city life

We have really enjoyed our time here at The Pebble — it is a fantastic place to come and relax away from the city life. Newquay is a wonderful little town to visit and one of our favourite moments has been to walk to Fistral Beach and have a mid-afternoon snack there, with the wonderful views of the waves in front of us. One of our best evenings out was Jamie's Fifteen at Watergate Bay. Nothing beats a Cornish sunset and The Pebble is in the ideal place to watch one. The view of the Atlantic from our window every day paired with the easy access to Lusty Glaze beach below makes for a wonderful holiday. Many thanks!

    The O'Regan family — August 2017
  • Well furnished

This is a lovely property to stay in for a holiday. It is well furnished and equipped and the flowers, food and wine on arrival are much appreciated. The view from the terrace is wonderful and we've been lucky enough to enjoy some spectacular sunsets. My husband, teenage daughter and I have had a great time despite the rain. We enjoyed hiking the coastal path, visiting the Eden Project, Trerice House, Lanhydrock House and can recommend the Fish House Restaurant, Fistral Beach. We're looking forward to coming back!

    James & Francesca — July 2017
  • Peaceful and an amazing location

It is such a wonderful start to a holiday when you first open the door to your 'new home' for the week and you enter into a beautiful space that is peaceful, quality, amazing location and surrounds you in a feeling of calm. We have been blessed with fantastic sunshine in which to complete two coastal walks (Towan Head and Watergate Bay), a day kayaking/surfing and another bodyboarding! Our overriding feeling is one of relaxed enjoyment — watching the sunsets from the terrace is magical. Thanks for thinking of everything!

    Simon & Jodie — July 2017
  • The Pebble was a great place to be!

A German family of four with two young sons — we could not have hoped to be in a better place than The Pebble Beach Apartment to shelter us from the Cornish weather! The Pebble was a great place to be, to feel comfortable, relax and enjoy late breakfasts and nice dinner evenings. Thanks to all of you for providing such a perfectly nice holiday home.

  • So beautiful

We had a wonderful stay at The Pebble. Very clean and comfortable and gorgeous sea views. Lovely walks from the apartment and fantastic meal and drinks at Lusty Glaze restaurant and the Boathouse in Newquay. A wonderful holiday... slept so well in the very comfy beds and have just been down to the beach with the children for some fresh air... Your apartment is so beautiful!

  • The best location in Newquay

It appears you left ‘no stones unturned’ (or should we say Pebbles?) in making your guests feel welcome, and in being so generous with ‘flowers, food and fine wine’. Our greatest memory of the holiday: the most exotic, vibrant sunset viewed for the best location in Newquay.

  • A home from home

My daughter, grandson and I stayed over Easter and it was absolutely lovely. The weather and the apartment were great! We didn't need the taxi really because the apartment is only a 10 minute walk from the train station. The apartment is on the ground floor so easy for us to enter and leave, and it had every mod con we wanted. It looks brand new, its very clean, a home from home. The large patio at the front, with table, chairs and loungers, was perfect for sitting in the afternoon sun eating, drinking and watching the boats. Thank you, it really helped make our holiday very enjoyable.

  • A superb location

A superb location for both the town centre and the beaches. Lusty Glaze beach is amazing! The apartment was spacious, beautifully decorated, very comfortable, easy to access and had everything we needed for our holiday. Having dinner at the apartment while looking at the beautiful sea views was a lovely way to end the day. Thoroughly recommended. Will definitely stay again.

  • Beautiful views

The Pebble is a lovely peaceful get away for anyone looking to relax with the option of lots to see and do! The large patio out the front gives you a lot of space when the weather is good to spread out and take advantage of the beautiful views and weather! The apartment itself is beautifully furnished with comfy beds and spacious bedrooms for you and your family/friends.

  • We fell in love with the apartment

The Pebble is in a great location. It's in a new high spec development, close enough to restaurants and amenities about a 5 minute walk away. The apartments are on the quiet side of Newquay, and there are no buildings between the apartments and the sea, which was great (there's a little road but it's not a through-road so was very quiet, and parking's banned on it on summer). We fell in love with the apartment immediately as it was beautifully furnished and well stocked. The kitchen is modern with good appliances. The lounge doors are bi-fold and open right up, and the view of the sea really is great. I would recommend the Lusty Glaze beach, it's one of the smaller ones in Newquay but is privately owned and feels a bit 'exclusive'. In the summer they do lots of watersports etc. It's one of the best breaks we have had, we'd strongly recommend The Pebble.
