Counting seals at Godrevy

Cornwall is lucky enough to have lots of marine wildlife along its shores, but the most common, and arguably the most adorable, are seals. If you do find yourself in Gwithian or Godrevy, you can find these fascinating marine creatures bobbing around all year.

Where can you see seals at Godrevy?

You see them all around this area. Sometimes they’ll be fishing out to sea, popping up next to surfers, or even resting on the rocks on Godrevy Island — you’ll need your binoculars though!

How many seals can you see at Godrevy?

Sometimes you can find groups of seals around the headland so it can be difficult to count them accurately. Big adult males are darker and plainer, smaller lighter and spottier females and slender juveniles. With your binoculars you can watch them roll and scratch and flump in and of the water.

What to do on a visit to the seals

Remember! Be sure to approach quietly, the seals are sensitive and don’t like noises — especially during the breeding season. National Trust do a fantastic job managing the habitat around here, ensuring people respect the seals.
